Microsoft Vista has been released but it is not ready for prime time.  If you would like to go to Vista, plan on buying a new computer because the new software runs very slow, even on a one year old computer.  Can you upgrade your computer? Yes, but a new computer would be cheaper in the long run.  Are you buying a new computer and don't want Vista, fine, ask for Windows XP Professional to be installed while you still can, because very soon now, you won't be able to buy Windows XP.  The general rule of thumb for new Microsoft products is to wait for the first major update to be released, usually one year, before you can be sure that it will work as intended.
